Lagos IGR Rises By N32.99bn – Higher Than 33 States Put Together

The total IGR from 33 states of the federation, excluding Delta, Ogun and Rivers states, stood at N299 billion – over a billion less than Lagos IGR. The internally generated revenue (IGR) of Lagos state rose by approximately N33 billion from 2015 to 2016, beating 33 states put together. According to a report by the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), the state recorded an IGR of N301.19 billion, a rise of N32.99 billion in one year. The wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari, on Saturday visited victims of the Ita-Faji building collapse at the Lagos Island General Hospital to sympathise with them, Punch Metro reports. The wife of the President offered her condolences to the victims of the incident, which claimed the lives of no fewer than 20 people, including school children. According to Newsmen, the traumatized woman who gave birth to the two children, who were between the ages of six and four, through Caesarean Section (CS), is said to have bought a bottle of insecticide called ‘Sniper’ and drank all of it. “Nobody knew what she wanted to do with the Sniper. A man who survived the Lagos building that collapsed on Wednesday has narrated his near-death story. A survivor of the collapsed building, Mr. Moruf Abdulakeem, yesterday revealed that he was under the rubble for three hours and at a point feared death was near. He said:- “I was praying to God under the rubble, to accept and forgive me my sins, because I believed the end had come.” According to him, he had gone out about 9.30a.m. to buy food and a bag of sachet water. The Lagos State Building Control Agency on Friday began the demolition of defective buildings. Those affected are mainly within Lagos Island and over 180 houses will be demolished in the exercise. Following the sad collapse of a 3-storey building house in the Ita Faaji area of Lagos Island yesterday, the before and after photos have emerged. According to agencies who rescued people, about 41 persons were saved, the number of casualties still unknown.
