EFCC Arrests Atiku’s Lawyer For Allegedly Laundering $2 Million

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Uyi Giwa Osagie, the lawyer and treasurer of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, for alleged money laundering. Osagie was arrested on Monday following the arrest of Alhaji Abdullahi Usman, a notorious BDC owner based in Lagos, who was caught ferrying $2 million by air from Abuja to Lagos. When the money was intercepted by EFCC, Usman, who owns Hasbunallahu BDC LTD, confessed that Uyi paid naira equivalent of $4million into his account. He converted it to $2million pieces and ferried to Lagos, and on arrival took it to Keystone Bank. Breaking News: Atiku Abubakar’s Lawyer, Giwa-Osagie Arrested By EFCC In Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has detained Mr. Uyi Giwa-Osagie, one of the lawyers of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over allegations of money laundering. The arrest which was made last night in Lagos State was disclosed by Reno Omokri, a former aide to former president Goodluck Jonathan. According to Omokri, a team of about 20 operatives of the financial crimes agency stormed Giwa-Osagie’s office at 15 Military Street, Onikan in Lagos at noon and searched his office, detaining him there till 9.30 p.m when he was eventually taken into custody. The EFCC’s spokesman, Mr. Tony Orilade, could not confirm the arrest last night as he said he was unable to reach the appropriate officer in the commission’s Lagos office. .
